Study Pathways for 2024-25

The LSO offers a range of osteopathy programmes; we have a Bachelors degree in osteopathy (BOst) and an Integrated Masters degree in osteopathy (MOst), both programmes are delivered through both full-time and part-time attendance. New for 2024 is the part-time weekday attendance pathway.

Full–time Study

  • Study takes place during term-time weekdays (usually over three days)
  • This will work for you if you are looking to qualify in the shortest possible time and start your new career as an osteopath.
  • The full-time BOst last 3.5 years (completing in February of Year 4) and the full-time MOst lasts 4 full academic years.
  • Full-time study may be suitable for you if:
    – You can commit to three days per week of timetabled study, plus time in Clinic and of self-directed study per week (40 hours per week in total)
    – You work part-time, mainly at the weekend or on a flexible basis
    – You prefer to have more regular interaction with tutors and fellow students

Part–time Study (Weekends)

  • Study takes place over 18 alternate weekends over the academic year (mid- September to the start of May) enabling you to have family or ‘social’ weekends and ‘study’ weekends.
  • Flexibility in scheduling your Clinic attendance at our dedicated osteopathy training clinic.
  • Part-time weekend study may be suitable for you if:

– You work in the week and are able to study at the weekend

– You want to manage study alongside other commitments on some weekends

– You can commit to 12-15 hours of self-directed study per week in addition to timetabled study

Part–time Study (Week days)

  • Study takes place during the working week, alongside the full-time students.
  • Fewer modules are studied per academic year (90 credits rather than 120 credits)
  • Flexibility in scheduling your Clinic attendance at our dedicated osteopathy training clinic.
  • Part-time week day study may be suitable for you if:
    – You work part-time, mainly at the weekend or on a flexible basis
    – You prefer to have more regular interaction with tutors and fellow students
    – You can commit to 12-15 hours of self-directed study per week in addition to timetabled study

Part-time and Full-time pathways

The part- and full-time pathways follow the same syllabus, the modules you will study are the same. The key difference is in the number of academic credits studied per year. The part-time course covers fewer credits per year and so takes longer to complete (but the total number of credits is the same at tahe end of the course). The number of credits per year is set out in the table below.

PathwayAcademic yearNumber of Credits
Full-time MOstYears 1 to 4120
Full-time MOstYears 1 & 290
Full-time BOstYears 360

* It is possible to complete the part-time MOst over 6 years, which reduces the credit
load (and Clinic attendance) in Year 5)

Clinic Hours

You are able to schedule your own Clinic attendance in order to fit in with your study schedule as well sa any other commitments you might have.  You will need to complete a minimum number of Clinic hours per academic year (from mid-September to the following August); this is illustrated in the graphs below.  This is a minimum requirement, students are very welcome to complete more Clinic hours if they wish to.

One stipulation is that you complete a minimum of 20% of your annual Clinic attendance requirements over the summer.  This is to try to minimise skills and knowledge attrition over the long summer vacation.

Course Fees

Course fees are set according to the number of academic credits studied each year as set out in the table below.  Students can either pay through Student Finance England through the Student Loan Scheme or they can self-fund.  For self-funding students, payment can be made in full at the start of the year or in three instalments.
